Common situations

A machine component wears out and the original supplier no longer exists. An assembly was modified on site years ago and no record was kept. A part needs to be improved, but there is nothing to modify because there is no model.

In each case the physical object is the only remaining source of truth. Reverse engineering extracts the geometry from it and rebuilds it as CAD.

From part to parametric model

  1. Inspect

    Understand how the part functions, which surfaces are critical and which features are incidental.

  2. Capture

    Dimensional measurement and 3D scanning to record the geometry as it currently exists.

  3. Reconstruct

    Process the point cloud, build clean parametric geometry in SolidWorks and resolve intent behind worn or damaged features.

  4. Validate & document

    Compare the model against the part and issue drawings and data for manufacture.
